In my humble opinion there is really no such thing as 'sports' massage.
It is a 'macho' phrase invented to make men feel more comfortable about another man touching their body and manipulating their limbs.
However, it has now grown it's own status and has professional standing and is widely believed to be the way to treat a sporting injury these days.
Its a nonsense of course as most clients seen by such a therapist play no sport and most of the therapies seem to involve some obligatory aggresive invasion of the muscles surrounding the focus of the clients complaint!
SO WHY TREAT PAIN WITH MORE PAIN?
The 'no pain - no gain' approach seems to be the mantra of 'sports' massage therapists, and to be blunt I think it entirely unnecessary. It just cannot make sense to treat pain with pain. My approach to treatment is a very different experience. Try it.
